In 1961, united by a passion for creativity and design, three artisans became friends and partners: Christiane Gautrot, interior decorator, Desmond Knox-Leet, painter, and Yves Coueslant, theatre administrator and set designer. They open a shop in Paris at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their avant-garde fabric designs and decorative items from their travels. A chic bazaar offering a fascinating variety of unexpected items, unique to Paris, which the trio brought back from their travels. "Merchants of everything", as Henry Gault and Christian Millau liked to name them, their choices had no limits other than their insatiable curiosity and keen sense of beauty.
Today, Diptyque is a French icon renowned for its fragranced candles. A full line of exquisite perfumes, soaps, and lotions is also available. Guided by a rich heritage, Diptyque perpetuates the creation of fragrances without reference to the masculine or the feminine. Passionate about re-creating scents from exotic travels and childhood memories, Diptyque fragrances capture the essences of green figs, orange blossoms, tuberose petals and black currant leaves, to name but a few. The universal, earthy nature of each fragrance cannot easily be described, serving as a gentle endorsement of life without boundary.
