In 1891, Gennaro Sferra left Italy for the United States with a trunk full of handmade Venetian lace, and a vision of the American Dream. In January, Sferra several new collections to commemorate its 130th Anniversary, including Moda, an opulent limited edition collection which remains available at last check. Now, we have just received a copy of Sferra’s newest catalog, which includes some beautiful new introductions for the fall, including ten new bedding collections.

The star of this show is clearly Cadetto, Sferra’s latest and perhaps most interesting limited edition collection. Cadetto duvet covers and shams seamlessly combine traditional, tailored sophistication with ease, comfort, warmth, and a touch of sparkle. The collection features a sumptuous Alpaca blend base in a neutral grey, contrasted with a metallic gold border and a charcoal colored trim that features a refined blend of acrylic, wool, polyester, mohair and silk. The name? It actually comes from the antique military fashion coats that inspired the collection, a fitting touch to commemorate a 130th Anniversary.

The Cadetto bed is complimented by Sferra’s new Jeno throw, and gradiated ombre throw woven with a special blend of extra-fine Merino and Angora wools. It is available in a Black/Grey color scheme which literally matches Cadetto, and also in a Burgundy/Grey variety designed to flatter Cadetto. Lastly, the Burano dec pillow has been introduced to optionally complete the bed; it features a “Merlot” red base with a white border and a metallic ombre emblem.

In 1891, Gennaro Sferra left Italy for the United States with a trunk full of handmade Venetian lace, and a vision of the American Dream. Today, his legacy lives on through the brand that he spawned. While it might not represent such a major milestone in the grand scheme, Sferra has begun to mark its 130th anniversary with some special new additions – including an updated take on Celeste, and a new limited edition collection that is instantly amongst its most opulent, and interesting collections.

Pettine adorns Sferra’s best selling Celeste sheet with embroidered, scalloped edges as well as a lined, satin stitch border. It is a new and fanciful take on Celeste, without sacrificing the concept of simple elegance. Choose from a duvet cover, flat sheet, and an array of shams; just one piece can liven your bed. Meanwhile…

Moda, Sferra’s latest limited edition collection, is an opulent study in contrast and versatility. The centerpiece of the collection is the duvet cover, featuring white 100% Giza 45 Egyptian cotton percale fabric adorned with lively green two-tone satin stitch embroidery along its hem, as well as a more subtle U-shaped pattern in the center, framing a detachable 100% silk scarf – which can serve as a decorative centerpiece on your bed, or can be worn as a scarf. The scarf itself features vivid blooms layered over the faint watermark of SFERRA’s lace ball logo, all printed on luxurious silk. Matching shams feature 100% printed silk backing to Egyptian cotton.

In case that was hard to visualize – no worries. Below are pictures of Moda, Pettine, and a variety of other brand new additions to Sferra’s line.

New for the Spring, Sferra has introduced Giza 45 Seta. Featuring a nearly 50/50 blend of Giza 45 Egyptian Cotton and exquisite silk fiber, Seta’s two-toned sateen weave lends an especially sumptuous finish. Is it the ultimate in Giza 45 bedding, or the ultimate in silk bedding? You decide.

Other new additions include Dorato, a limited edition duvet cover / sham which is backed in Giza 45 Seta, and a limited edition ‘Unity’ throw blanket. The Unity throw, a special collaboration between actress Lucy Liu and Sferra, features a 100% silk print on the front, and reverses to cashmere. Sferra and Lucy Liu will combine to donate 15% of all Unity sales to the Tory Burch Foundation, a non-profit organization advancing women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. There will be a limited production run of 100 throws.

Both the Giza 45 Seta and Dorato collections are exclusively made to order (allow up to three months for delivery). The Dorato collection must be ordered ASAP to guarantee availability; at last check six of fiteen had been sold.
